Friday Night we fly into LAX and stay with my Father-in-Law at his apartment a few blocks from the Santa Monica Pier
Saturday morning at 7:30 were meeting SPAMBot and maybe a few others at the Malibu Kitchen and then driving through the canyons. Let me know if you would like to meet and have not seen anything before this
Tuesday early morning we start driving towards Sequoia National Park and are staying at WukSachi Lodge after trying to hit up as many places in the park as possible
Wednesday morning we head towards Hume Lake and then down into Reedley(where I grew up) and then Sunnyside/Fresno to see some family friends. We plan on being in Morro Bay that night where my Grandmother has a second home
Thursday is a field trip to Hearst Castle
Friday-Sunday is a family reunion in Morro Bay
Sunday afternoon we head back to LA
5 AM flight to Nashville on Monday morning is going to suck
Should be an awesome trip. Super excited about the ride too. We’ll be putting nearly 1000 miles on a 2019 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG provided by Mercedes. We’ll fit right in around LA but the gas bill is going to suck. Anyways, the wife is actually excited about getting a G because every woman in the Southeast(and probably everywhere else) wants a G Wagon.

Say what you want about it, but I absolutely love the design and always will. No matter how often they're seent here in Florida being driven by asshats, nothing can change that fact about it.

Love Sequoia. Have fun!
Will be pretty slow going through the park, but I assume you’re aware of that.

Yep! That’s why were getting up early and trying to get up there and then why we paid bonkers amount of money to stay in the park at the lodge Tuesday night. Trying to knock out as much as possible.

Love the vehicle, hate some demographics who also love them (and often slither their way into buying/driving them).
Have fun out there.

“slither”is a great way to put it. I’ve been joking about posting an Instagram c opying a certain Jenner and trying to see if I can pull o ff the G poses better than she can.

You won’t be any worse, that’s for sure.
Such a funny vehicle - like it, but I’d be self-conscious in it. Definitely as much stigma as anything else on the road, and not in a good way. The E wagon is the opposite - while there’s something stately and prestigious about it, it is also invisible in a way.

I drove the ISF to dinner with the mother in law and wife nd when we left they both walked up to a grey Corolla a few spaces down.
Invisible I totally understand .
Almost cried .

There’s some value to that. When I had a couple of older AMGs, they were the same way - the masses ignored them, they only got attention from people who knew what they were. Not a bad thing. It also means other owners will often be low-key.

Oh this is the thing I am going to and apparently planning the route for on Saturday lol. Will have to make sure to show you some sweet roads! You have any preference on seeing beaches versus super twisty roads and scenic overlooks in the hills? We will hit both of course but given the time window, focus can be put one way or the other. Idk if you want to drive the G wagon hard on canyon runs but that sure would be fun to watch at least haha. Hopefully spambot can get the ferarri going so that we have an extra gucci squad.
If you have time, I recommend making the drive out into Kings Canyon while you are up there. It would probably add an hour to your day on Wednesday but that was a highlight of my trip to Sequoia recently. Its also worthwhile seeing the touristy stuff at Sequoia as the trees there really had me in awe the whole time. Short easy hikes are so rewarding there and simply driving around is wonderful.

I’m bummed I won’t be able to make it. My family made plans to go to Disneyland that day and I want to go before everyone isn’t blocked out anymore and it gets too crowded.

Sounds like an awesome trip. What’d you have to do to get Mercedes to give you a G63? Good timing and cooridnation for a press car?

Definitely luck. I was supposed to have a new GLS580 since lots of miles, then only a G550 was avaible, but then that G550 ended up being a G63 and they didn’t know it until a couple days later.

That’s definitely very lucky. I hope you made a stink about it and told them “well you still owe me a GLS580 ASAP too”!

Initially I asked if they had something smaller than the GSL580. It’s just me and my wife so big SUV is not too practical . I g uess they technically did find something smaller.

Yup, that’s the road anyways. It’s worth the trek down towards the end and shouldn’t take too long if you're already going that way . I especially enjoyed the raging river down at the bottom of the canyon and the waterfalls along the way. If you are there early, you shouldn't get much traffic also. I had a really nice time driving down with barely anyone around.

The only time ive been on 10 mile road before was a bunch of times when I was a kid and it was 10 feet under me in the snow. Seeing it for the first time and without snow will be amazing

Considering the weather right now, its probably gonna be hot as hell there so it will surely be different! Same for much of your drive really. But youve got a shiny new car with nice AC so it should be fine. But I’d expect over 100F most of the time you are driving about outside of the mountains.
Best weather the whole time will probably be along the coast for sure. Both when you are up at Hearst Castle/Morro Bay and in Malibu. But at least when its hot inland, you wont have any of that damn humidity, so you might find that pleasant anyways.

I was about to say that. “It’s a drryyyyy heat”. Today it’s 96 degrees with 55% humidity in beautiful Middle Tennessee.

Ehh thats not super duper humid at least. That is pretty much the high end for what we see in LA sometimes . And like 50% higher than it would be out in the desert lol. The nice thing is usually the warmer it is, the lower the humidity is. Somewhere around 70-75 with 50%+ humidity is pretty common in the summer but over 80 it usually drops much below that.

eeeeek that sounds like a literal swamp haha. And yeah Vegas has some REAL nice weather in the winter. 80 degrees and single digit humidity is absolute paradise. Once its pushing 120 though hot is hot!

Not to add even more mileage to your trip, but I would recommend taking the 33 north to the 166, then back to the 101. It isn’t really a G wagon type of road, but it is beautiful. The coast is always good too. If you leave early enough, PCH through Malibu is about the same amount of time as the 101 through the valley. 10/10 would recommend. Then just pick up the 101 in Oxnard.
